You need to stop doing these 3 things if you want better sleep

You need to stop doing these 3 things if you want better sleep

How good is your sleep recently? There seems to be an epidemic of bad sleep going round! Many of my clients report poor sleep as an issue.

A lack of sleep can affect:

  • Your memory
  • Your immune system
  • Your cardiovascular system
  • Your chances of getting dementia in later life
  • Your fertility

If you’re someone who doesn’t find getting to sleep at night easy, you’re not alone – insomnia is one of the UK’s biggest googled health worries.

I believe that sleep is one of the cornerstones of health and wellbeing. Even one or two nights of poor sleep can really make you feel low, agitated and sluggish.

So often people focus on what they should be doing and they aim to do it perfectly This can causes stress in itself. So, for this blog I thought I would reverse it and focus on the three main things that you could not do that would make the biggest difference to your sleep.

The three things are simply:

  • Stop shallow breathing. Try some diaphragmatic breathing which is amazing for deeply relaxing
  • Try not to use anything digital in the hour before bed as it stimulates your brain
  • Don’t go to bed at random times. Stick to a sleep schedule. Go to bed and get up at the same time each day when possible

Let’s look at them one by one.

1 – Stop shallow breathing

woman deep breathing

Just take a moment now and notice how you are breathing. Is your breath high in your chest or from low? Are your breathes shallow or deep? Fast or slow? Are you breathing through your nose or your mouth? We mostly take the breath for granted. It is taken care of by our unconscious mind which operates our breathing and all the systems and organs in the body to keep us alive. But you can really relax by breathing in a different way and although there are many techniques and even classes for breathing, diaphragmatic breathing is a good one to master because it really relaxes your and puts you in control. Many of my clients I help with anxiety and stress find it very beneficial and it’s a great one to do in bed to prepare for sleep.

2 – Try not to use anything digital in the hour before bed

Now without getting all scientific here about the reward receptors in your brain and how they love a bit of Facebook and Instagram, think about this for a moment. You are looking at a bright screen, your eyes are focused on small items and words and you might be toggling between apps, internet, text and calls. Does that sound like a peaceful bedtime wind down time?! I think not. I actually read yesterday that our brains don’t know the difference between work emails and personal emails, Your brain jumps into ‘work’ mode whenever it sees an email and this creates cortisol (a stress hormone) in your body. Not what you want at bedtime. So stay away from the Digital gadgets at bedtime and choose a more soothing and relaxing wind down activity. You will absolutely notice a difference.

3 – Don’t go to bed at random times

We are creatures of habit really. We do well with routines and we have to sleep every night so might as well try and make it a routine that your body will like. We put children to bed at the same time each night mostly but not ourselves? Your body will love a routine for sleep, just as it loves regular mealtimes. It knows what to expect and can manage its energy accordingly.

Because sleep is so important to your health and maybe an issue for you, you might like to try the things on this list and let me know which is your favourite. Or maybe you have a ‘stop doing’ tip of your own that you can share in the comments of this blog? We would love to hear it, you might help someone sleep better tonight.

5 types of anxiety you can overcome in two hours with Hypnosis

5 types of anxiety you can overcome in two hours with Hypnosis

5 types of anxiety you can overcome in two hours with Hypnosis

Today I will explain 5 types of anxiety you can overcome in two hours with Hypnosis. In my last blog post, I showed you what you could achieve in one hour of Hypnosis but today I want to focus on the types of anxiety that I have experience of helping people overcome in most cases in two sessions.

Anxiety can really affect day to day life for sufferers. It can feel unbearable but it is relatively easy to treat. Once you are anxiety free, you can live your life without constraints.

When I refer to ‘Hypnotherapy’ here I am talking about the advanced Hypnotherapy I offer, along with other therapies like NLP and tapping. I weave these together in the best way for you so you get the best outcome.

1 – Work anxiety

Lots of people suffer in silence every day at work. Feeling anxious about the work they do, or the way they are managed or dealing with colleagues and customers. Workload and performance management drive anxiety higher and actually affect your ability to do good work making the situation worse.

And the self employed suffer too, the pressure of starting or managing a business, generating business, overwhelm or fear of failure.

Symptoms I’ve seen include sleepless nights, hair loss and weight gain. There is also a fear of speaking out at work because anxiety can zap your confidence.

 2 – Children’s anxiety

The things children get anxious about may not make sense to adults, which is why parents are not always equipped to help in the best way. The issues I see for children are worries about going to school, going to sleep or staying asleep, fear of the dark, thunder and lightning or fussy eating.

These situations affect your whole family. You can forget what ‘normal’ feels like and it’s lovely when anxiety leaves your house.

Getting help for children’s anxiety can be a long and difficult journey, but there is help and effective treatment available that can change your child’s life.

3 – Social anxiety

Social anxiety is said to affect up to 40% of the general public. I wrote a popular blog post about it.  Social anxiety is when social encounters or situations cause you distress and worry. Many people don’t realise they even have it, they just think they don’t like going out.

It can cause problems with relationships and make you feel lonely if you want company, but find it hard to socialise. But Hypnosis is very helpful for overcoming your social fears and once you have had a few successes, your confidence will grow, as will your social circle.

I help a lot of clients with social anxiety on Skype, because they find it easier to relax in the comfort of their own homes at the start of treatment.

4 – Public speaking anxiety

self-confidence

The thought of public speaking fills some people with terror and panic. They don’t just feel nervous before the speech but in the months, weeks and days leading up to it. The more they dread it, the more the panic grows.

Some people will need to speak publicly more often than others but we might all have to do it at some point in our lives, maybe:

  • In an interview scenario
  • In a role at a wedding; father of the bridge, best man
  • Speaking impromptu (off the cuff)
  • Delivering reports
  • Delivering prepared speeches/presentations
  • Introducing speakers
  • Accepting and presenting awards
  • Contributing to meetings at work
  • Speaking to inspire others

5 – Driving anxiety

Anxieties around driving can range from making right hand turns, driving over bridges, driving alone at night, driving in rush hour, driving on motorways and driving abroad. These anxieties can really limit your options and stop you going to places and doing things you want to do. It limits your freedom.

When you are no longer afraid, you can begin to live.

You could change years of feeling something. Yes really. The other benefits of overcoming your anxiety are that it opens up your world. You will feel calmer, more confident and able to live a happier life.

Hypnotherapy helps you get to the root of the issue safely and overcome your fears.

The entire premise of my work is to make a difference to how you feel from the first session. One of the big things with anxiety is that people think it controls them but with a few simple techniques you can take back control.

What you can achieve in one hour of Hypnosis

What you can achieve in one hour of Hypnosis

I thought you might want to know what you can achieve in one hour of Hypnosis, so here we go. When I refer to ‘Hypnotherapy’ here I am talking about the advanced Hypnotherapy I offer, along with other therapies like NLP and tapping. I weave these together in the best way for you so you get the best outcome.

You could change years of feeling something

Yes really. My therapies work with the feeling of something, rather than talking about the something. This is because your mind/body stores experiences and maps them all to a feeling. By working with the feeling, you remove the root cause. Remove a life long trauma.

Stop smoking

quit smoking with hypnotherapy

It’s officially a two hour session but the work is done in one session. I’ve got stop smoking down to a fine art. We tap out the craving and desire, use a technique to remove your desire to stop and then top it off with Hypnosis to seal in your resilience and all the benefits of being a non-smoker.

You could remove anxiety

I will explain how although you feel like anxiety has control on you, with a few simple techniques and mindset shifts you can be in control. Again we are working with the feeling here.  Some people need two sessions but this is mostly because of their beliefs (which we all have to different degrees). Many people choose to have two sessions because they like to put more ‘good stuff’ in where anxiety was (like confidence for example).

You could remove a phobia like fear of flying

This one is so simple. We tap out the fear and then use Hypnotherapy to set a new scene in your mind of you preparing for your flight, arriving at the airport, getting on the plane and taking off.

You could stop eating sugar

Crush your sugar cravings

Yes I have had clients give up sugar in one session!

You could have a good night’s sleep

This seems to be a growing problem. It seems to be the people that say they are ‘over thinkers’ or ‘worriers’ that have the most trouble. You can offload a lot of worry in one hour of Hypnosis and many people say they have a really good sleep for the first time in ages after just one session.

You could remove pain

A lot of pain is due to an emotional distress or trauma being stored in the body. Hypnosis is a totally safe way to remove pain that no longer serves a purpose. Particularly effective for fibromyalgia, arthritic pain, chronic pain, old injuries, sciatica, chronic fatigue and back pain.

You could pass your driving test

Many driving test failures are caused by nerves. Hypnosis is very effective for calming nerves and boosting confidence.

You could pass the interview and get the job

Learn how to use your posture to be more confident, how to connect to your inner confidence and retain your train of thought under pressure. You’re hired!

Just one hour can change your life

Change your life

Yes you can make huge differences in an hour and many people do but we are all different. Some people will want the change so much it’s almost instant. Others need to work through other beliefs of secondary gain before they change. Some people need to take their time and that is fine too. The point I am making in this post is you don’t always need weeks or months of therapy.

The entire premise of my work is to make a difference to how you feel from the first session. But self development is a big area and people very often choose to come back for more sessions so we will look at what else you can achieve in a couple of other blog posts this week.

Please note, weight loss and depression are not quick fixes. I offer a 4 week programme if you want to deal with these.

The real secret to getting motivated

The real secret to getting motivated

So you want to know the real secret to getting motivated? Like so many secrets to success, its very simple! The real secret to getting motivated is to clear the blocks. Yes that’s it. But let me explain why.

Clear your blocks to get motivated

Smart people know that Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to achieving the things you want to in life and I often see clients who are looking for help with what they describe as a ‘lack of motivation’. Behind this lack of feeling motivated I have noticed the key themes of:

  • Fear
  • Lack of confidence
  • Perfectionism
  • Overwhelm
  • Disconnection with themselves

Now imagine trying to cook a meal in an untidy and dirty kitchen. You wouldn’t really want to would you? It would be difficult and not enjoyable. You would get in a flap moving things around, finding a place to put things and well it just wouldn’t feel good. That’s the equivalent of looking for a motivated feeling when the issues I listed above haven’t been dealt with.

All the issues on the list above cause procrastination and procrastination and feeling motivated   are not a marriage made in heaven. Let’s look at them one by one.

Fear

fear

A traditional coaching question for getting people motivated is ‘what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail’. Usually when I ask people this their eyes light up and they get excited about something. And then soon after asking the question they will try and dip into all the reasons they can’t or feel they shouldn’t do that. The reasons why will vary but the underlying theme is often a fear of failure. Failure is how we learn.

What if a baby gave up when it didn’t walk the first time it tried? And Edison, the inventor of the light bulb famously said “I have not failed 10,000 times, I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”

Lack of confidence

Honestly, lack of confidence can stop the most qualified people from having success. It can stop people having fulfilling relationships and being able to show up in the world as themselves. If you are someone that sees other people doing things and you think you could have done it better it is probably confidence that has stopped you.

Lack of confidence is one of the easiest things to fix with Hypnosis and Coaching and like taking your driving test, you only need to do it once and you are set for a very long time. Once you enjoy the freedom and opportunities that come with increased confidence, you will not want to change it.

Perfectionism

perfectionism

Perfectionism could be renamed as ‘not feeling good enough’. But it can stifle the best creators and keep people stuck. Life really is too short. Of course it’s important to do a good job and do things properly, but for some people they spend so long perfecting that nothing really ever gets finished. And during the time they have spent perfecting, things have changed so much that their thing isn’t really relevant or up to date anymore so off they go again changing, improving, perfecting, missing out…..

Overwhelm

Nothing kills motivation faster than overwhelm. And wow we are surrounded. Battling inboxes, phones, standards, jobs, homes, family and friends. But if you have something you want to achieve you have to channel focus because your mind just can’t do a gazillion things at once. It’s not the way it’s designed and ‘good’ multi tasking doesn’t exist.

I use an amazing process in Hypnosis where we create a map of your objective and your unconscious mind will sort out any blocks to achieving it and give you an inner focus like never before.

Disconnection with yourself

Have you ever had instructions from someone that didn’t make sense? Isn’t it frustrating! Clarity makes things so much easier. But if you are not clear on who you are and what you want how will you be able to muster the motivation that you need? I love helping people get clear on their values (what is most important to them) and identity (I will ask you now to answer this question out loud…Who are you?).

When you get clear on yourself you will feel like anything is possible. Like searching for the right house and when you get it you just can’t stop thinking about it because it just feels so right.

Clear the blocks and the motivation will come, by the bucket load!

Don’t hang around, be an action taker and feel how good that feels! Here are things you can do right now.

Sending you fizzy energetic vibes,

Honey

10 ways that Hypnosis can help small business owners be more successful

10 ways that Hypnosis can help small business owners be more successful

This 10 ways that Hypnosis can help small business owners be more successful is an exciting post for me to write because as a Hypnotherapist discovering the endless uses for Hypnosis seems to be my life purpose!

In the past year I’ve been helping lots of small business owners improve their mindset so they can be more successful.

This week is American Express shop small week where you can get £5 for £10 spent. We also recently had Small Business Saturday and Local Business Week back in May. These are great marketing opportunities for small business but a good mindset will see you through an entire year.

So why Hypnosis for mindset?

Hypnosis is loved by those who understand and use it and misunderstood by many that don’t. One of my popular blog posts was this one in which I answered some of the common questions people ask about Hypnosis. I had a lot of calls from that post purely because people better understood what Hypnosis is and isn’t.

Hypnosis isn’t ‘woo woo’. You don’t have to believe in it for it to work. It is a process of bypassing the critical factor (the logical part) of your mind, to get to your unconscious mind, which is the part that calls the shots.

So if you spend lots of time and energy on doing all the things you think you need to do to be successful, life and business could be so much easier if you tapped into your greatest asset. The power of your unconscious mind.

Here are the 10 ways that Hypnosis can help small business owners be more successful

man with self belief

1 – Self-belief

I consider this to be the biggest issue for entrepreneurs. Many have great ideas, business plans, amazing websites and good products. But you need self-belief to keep going, to overcome hurdles and to achieve your dreams. It’s different to confidence because you can be outwardly confident, but inwardly giving yourself negative self-talk like ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I will fail’ and ‘I’m not good enough’. Not having self-belief makes you doubt yourself and not ‘go for it’.

Having self-belief is a game changer because it makes you believe you can do anything and not to listen to nay sayers.

Sports people probably understand this the most. When they are about to start their game or race, they HAVE to believe they can win. That’s why so many sports people have coaching and many use Hypnosis and NLP to increase their self-belief.

2 – Confidence

You wouldn’t believe how many ‘big business’ names have coaching to increase their confidence. It helps with presentations, public speaking  and leading teams but also it feels good. It’s normal to have a few nerves before an interview or public speaking event, they can be useful in creating adrenalin. But no one wants to be a nervous wreck in the toilets before an important event or meeting.

Hypnosis can eliminate reasons that you don’t feel confident and create ‘anchors’ for you to use to give you a boost. Confidence is a state of mind so it makes sense that Hypnosis is brilliant for increasing confidence.

3 – Removing blocks

Procrastination is the nemesis of many entrepreneurs. Maybe you know what needs to be done and just can’t understand why you are not doing it. And then you see other people around you doing it. Maybe your competitors!

You know what you need to do and why so why aren’t you doing it? You can’t understand it. This is because these blocks are held in your unconscious. You can’t access them yourself because they are not known to your conscious mind. I can’t tell you how many people have ‘wow’ moments and clear blocks during Hypnosis.

4 – Strategy

strategy in chess

If you are struggling to put a clear strategy together or can’t get a clear view of the ‘big picture’ for your 1,3,5 year plan, Hypnosis is marvelous for creating one. I use a technique where you create a map in your mind of the big picture and all the elements of getting there. This can be done in person or on Skype – try it!

5 – Creativity

Creativity is held in the right side of your brain and will become stifled if you are overloading the left side of the brain where you logic sits. Stress will also affect creativity because your brain can’t relax into that nice place where creative thoughts flow.

Have you ever noticed you have good ideas as you drift off to sleep, or after exercise or on holiday? This is because you are relaxing and your brain can perform at its creative best. In Hypnosis you connect to the unconscious mind where ideas and creativity come to the surface.

6 – Resilience

woman with resilience

Being in business (and life!) requires resilience. Resilience comes from self-awareness and taking action when you realise you need to. Hypnosis can help you let go of things that are worrying you and making you less resilient and teach you how to connect to a place inside where you can replenish and restore.

7 – Calm

Just in case you don’t know. A continuous state of stress isn’t good for you. Not meaning to scare you here but the World Health Organisation say more than half of the top causes of death are linked to stress. I wrote a blog about it here. Now the reality is that business can be stressful but it is how you manage your stress, not your workload that is important. Products, finances, customers, suppliers, employees… it all goes on. But some people can juggle all this and not feel the effects of stress and other people will feel very stressed.

Like resilience, awareness here is key. Know your stress signals and take action to address them when you feel them. More importantly, build relaxation time into your schedule on a regular basis. I have a free relaxing recording that you can listen to here. Just 12 minutes to totally unwind 🙂

8 – Winning business

I’ve had lots of clients who come to see me because things aren’t right in their lives. Maybe they feel a bit lost or confused about themselves. Or maybe issues from the past have presented themselves as unhelpful emotions which are getting in the way of winning business. With these issues dealt with in a few sessions of Hypnosis, winning business will be much easier with you feeling focused and energised.

Customers can sense when things are off balance so it pays to get things sorted so you are at your best when you are selling.

9 – Increased intuition

Intuition is a very useful business tool. although good planning and strategy are important, intuition is your internal compass.

If something isn’t right for you, your intuition will know this. Intuition is basically your unconscious mind and its job is to keep you safe and do its best for you. The more you are able to tap into your unconscious mind, the better your intuition will be able to help you do the things that are right for you.

10 – Creating an abundant mindset

An abundant mindset means not worrying about a ‘lack of’. A lack of clients or customers, a lack of money etc. an abundant mindset means you believe good things will come to you easily. If you believe there to be lots of customers for your services this gives you loads more opportunity to see and takes away ‘competitor envy’ because there is enough to go round. An abundant mindset means you are not scared to invest in yourself because you are worth it.

Because everything in life operations at a ‘vibrational level’ you will be sending positive messages to the world around you and this will manifest as good things being drawn to you. Now I know that sounds a bit ‘woo woo’ but it’s actually energetic principles in action!

So how can you use Hypnosis to have a more successful business?

I can help you with any of the ten things above, just get in touch to book a session and get the edge for 2018 in your business. Don’t let another year pass and struggle on with the same battles in your head, get them sorted and grab 2018 with both hands. This could be your best year yet.
