There are many things that will affect you feeling satisfied with your life. You can look at other people’s lives and think they have it so much better than you. You can be envious that they don’t have the same problems as you and things are easier for them.
But the truth is everyone has their own hang ups and problems but there will be a number of differences in the way that people handle things that affects their level of satisfaction with their life.
So how might you increase your life satisfaction score?
Acceptance is huge. Some people are haunted by the past to the extent that it stops them enjoying the present or the future. Accepting the downs as well as the ups of life is major (and not always easy). Some people need to understand the past to move on and release the emotions they are carrying. The important thing is to accept that life is ever changing and that means taking the rough with the smooth.
People who are more satisfied with life have probably overcome some of the things that would make them feel unsatisfied. A big one is not feeling loved. If you are receiving the love you need (from others or yourself), it is hugely beneficial. This isn’t to say that everyone needs to be in a loving relationship. Love has many different sources. The change may come from improved communication or changing the source of the love.
People with anxiety, restrictive phobias or panic attacks are likely to seek help if they want a better life. People with stress related issues or sleep issues are unlikely to be satisfied with their life and get help. It is amazing how easy it is to change these situations with Hypnotherapy.
Improving your appearance through weight loss or your health by stopping smoking are good examples of taking control to be more satisfied with your life. Both will help you live longer! If you are overeating or smoking it is unlikely you will be feeling good about yourself and as soon as you take control it’s a game changer.
People who feel depressed are most likely to feel unsatisfied as it is difficult to muster enthusiasm when feeling depressed. As a Hypnotherapist with a specialist in depression, I love to see how different people feel about life after my specially designed 4 week programme. People with depression often don’t realise how much control they actually have over how they feel.
People with good life satisfaction are usually comfortable in their own skin. Confident in knowing that not all satisfaction comes from external factors. Understanding things that bring them joy and doing more of those things.
Understanding your values and identity so you can feed your self-esteem and care for yourself on a regular basis are really good for life satisfaction. Having confidence to change what isn’t right and go for what is.
